Tanabata refers to an annual festival also known as the "star festival", where people write wishes on small pieces of coloured paper and hang them in bamboo trees. This smooth paper is decorated with snippets of coloured paper embedded in the surface. The non-bleeding surface takes digital print well and makes it excellent for pen writing. It is also used for shoji screen making, origami folding, and envelope making.
