“Why, when we make art, do we seek white paper?”

Our latest online exhibition, ON COLOUR, emerged from this one question—we offered the following call for submissions:

“Colour infuses our lives. Not only do we see colour, but we can speak with colourful language and use colour words to express how we are feeling. Why then, when we make art, do we seek white paper? Let’s start with colour and see where it takes us!”

Artists were invited to select one paper from a provided list to use as the base of their artwork. They were welcome to use the medium of their choice to express their ideas and could also incorporate additional Japanese papers.
