The inclusion of clay in this paper makes it dimensionally stable, preventing shrinkage and curling in changing humidity levels. In Japan, it is traditionally used as a backing for scrolls to help them hang flat. The fibre is cooked with caustic soda, naturally bleached, and blended with clay. pH at time of making is 8.2. Made in Kochi by Kashiki Mill, producer of high-quality papers for conservation.
